Do I Qualify For Food Stamps?
Qualifying for food stamps is dependent upon a few factors. Luckily, there is a pre-screening tool that can help facilitate this process and get you on the right track to determine whether you qualify. The pre-screening tool is not an application, but it can help decide if you’re eligible for the SNAP benefits (food stamps). In order to qualify, households must meet certain tests for resources, income and size.
First, federal law states that households may have $2,000 in countable resources, such as a bank account, or $3,250 in countable resources if at least one person is age 60 or older, or disabled. Certain resources, including vehicles or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), are typically excluded from this valuation.
More so, households must meet income tests. Typically, they must meet both the gross and net income tests, unless the household has an elderly person or someone receiving particular types of disability payments. More information on the income breakdown is available at the following link.
